Pretty good tips, thanks for sharing this insightful post. I’m in the same industry, having moved around a bit quite like you, and I think a lot of what you’ve mentioned is pretty important. I’m going to pass this link onto my sister as well, who’s just entering the job world. (What a bad time to do it eh?)

@Jinal..One think I have learnt in the past 2 years or so after college is that, what I do vs what I have learnt vs What I wanna do…are so completely different. I guess each one of them complements the other..atleast that’s what I can hope for, that I have learnt what not to do in future!…

Rehab Chougle – I think it depends on an individual’s priorities. But generally, I hold the opinion that your job shouldn’t just be a job. Its gotta drive you. Then again, in hard times, priorities have to change.

In times of recession, when being fired is the norm, I believe that you should exercise your talent and get by. Sometimes, the better thing to do is to accept a profile that is different and move rather than standing still for a similar, if not better offer.
what do you think ?

very cool. a bit late to commenting but i find that as the weeks pass in my job hunt, i become more shameless because if i don’t make that call, then someone else will. thanks for all your help thus far…

A very insightful post Jinal. I got my job by randomly emailing the head of the department, not the CEO, but still a prominent figure of the company. So I completely agree to point no.5.

I do feel that the last point on quitting might have an important flip side to it – which is most common among the youth today – not being satisfied with the job they currently have. Attrition rates are high among them because they are always seeking for something more exciting. The ‘can’t-wait-to- quit-my-job’ scenario might occur at a more frequent interval than the ‘can’t-wait-to-begin-the-new-one’. Just a thought

You are probably right and I guess that mature understanding comes from experience. I’ve been in the workforce only 4 years now so I probably have much to learn myself. Thank you for sharing your learning here. I am certainly going to make that amendment on this piece. Thank you!!
