On my mind...

Learning everyday

A profession like marketing, advertising and even writing are just a tad bit more challenging for foreigners like me who severely lack the cultural literacy required to stay on top of the trends, motifs and metaphors that come in everyday conversations with colleagues, clients and other marketers.
New things to learn everyday….

  1. Hmm…do you have examples or little tidbits to share? I’m sure you’re doing quite fine, though! :-)

  2. But Jinal, you bring so much to the table with that different cultural understanding. You have a rare insight, being from a foreign country, that the native-born lack.

We all have something new to learn every day. Exciting, isn’t it?

  3. I hear you on this. No matter how versed I thought i was on American pop culture (having grown up being a TV addict), there are still so much more cultural marketing references that I didn’t get.
And though I do bring foreigns insights to the table, I still felt the struggle to understand initially.

I believe in a set of values I cannot live by. I set high goals for myself, I seek perfection, dream of exotic faraway places. But ultimately, what I long for isn't far away at all. Its in my own backyard. Imperfection charms me, familiar things move me... a celebration of what we have, instead of what we long for- that for me, is glamor. -Isabella Rossellini
